Discover Primary Science – D053- Step 2- Technology (I.C.T.)- Using iPads in our School

I.C.T. in Scoil Aonghusa Junior

In Scoil Aonghusa Junior we have a class set of iPad’s.
Each week pupils get a chance to use the iPad’s to do computer based projects such as Scratch.
Scratch teaches the children to learn basic directional computer coding through animation.

Classes also use the iPad’s to complete numeracy and literacy tasks to help with learning in Maths and English.

They also use the iPad’s to find out information about all subjects areas and to do class projects.

You can see more examples of this on the Science and Technology category page on the website.

Here are some photos of Mr. O’ Neachtain’s second class pupils using the iPad’s to complete Scratch coding projects:

First the pupils work independently or in pairs on their coding to make the animations move on the screen:

Then the teacher connects the pupils iPad’s to the class whiteboard projector.
Each pupil gets to show and share their coding projects with each other on the bigger screen.

The children really enjoy using the Scratch Programme to make animated characters move.
They always look forward to using iPad’s in class in a variety of ways to learn new things!
