Welcome to our website!

As Principal Teacher of Scoil Aonghusa Junior, it is a real pleasure to welcome you to our school blog site.  My name is Louise Cunningham and I hope you will enjoy finding out about our school on this site.

This year we have 231 pupils in our school.  We teach pupils from Junior Infants to Second Class (4-8years). This year we have 19 teachers on the staff, 12 mainstream class teachers and 7 support teachers working to help pupils with a variety of needs. Our Home School Community Teacher, Ms. Una Qualter is shared with Scoil Aonghusa Senior. We also have 6 Special Needs Assistants working in classes.  Our secretary Paula Corrigan looks after the busy office.  Martin Kelly, caretaker works with us as well as in Scoil Aonghusa Senior and Scoil Rose.

In Scoil Aonghusa Junior we try to ensure that all the children in our school are valued and happy learners.  We cherish all our pupils and their uniqueness equally.  We are a Catholic school and our faith informs the values and traditions that are lived out and nurtured on a daily basis.  We also welcome diversity and take pride in being a very inclusive school. We believe pupils learn best when they are safe, when they know they are respected by everyone in the school community and when they are motivated by their learning.  As a school community we place a strong emphasis on supporting our young pupils by providing pastoral as well as educational supports.  We are particularly mindful of those who are most vulnerable as a result of social or educational disadvantage.

The Board of Management, Teaching Staff, Support Staff, Parents, Guardians and families work together to create a positive and caring atmosphere throughout this school.  Our ethos is based on mutual respect and contributes to the creation of strong bonds throughout the school community.  We welcome parental involvement in this school.  We are delighted to see an increasing number of parents getting involved in the life of the school through activities such as ”Maths for Fun”, Johnson and Johnson Reading Club, Walk on Wednesdays “W.O.W.” Parents’ Association meetings, Home School Community activities and through the work of the Board of Management.  We believe that by working together as partners in education we can all learn from each other.  In this way we can develop this school so as to provide the best possible education for the children in Scoil Aonghusa Junior.
